There’s more to wellness than just training and focusing on healthy foods. Taking a comprehensive idea of your health— nourishing your mind, body, and soul—is crucial for your overall health. We like to call this self-care. Here are a number of our favorite methods for practicing self-care.
We may be engaging in social distancing, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t able to connect with each other! Set up an online coffee break or happy hour with your friends. Keep the conversation positive and tell each other a good thing that happened to you lately. Make plans for when you can see each other again and how great it will be to give them a huge, warm hug. Together we are better prepared to handle this and can support each other. That’s what friends should do!
Follow a Flexible Routine
Build an agenda for your day but give your day some flexibility. For instance, set an alarm for around the same time every morning and get in bed around the same time at nighttime. Write out your objectives for the day and plan out your work projects, but make some time for your daily workout, a walk outdoors, or to turn to your favorite book. Don’t be too severe with your agenda that you create unnecessary stress. Finding a balance between routine and leisure will help you have a more useful and satisfying day.
Thankfulness is good for humans. The more gratitude we offer to others during uncertain times, the more cheerful and tougher we become. Allow others grace. One of our preferred ways to offer gratitude is to contact a loved one and let them know how much you love them. A a simple note is also a welcome and wonderful surprise that is guaranteed to make a person’s day.
There’s not a thing better than spending time outdoors, basking in the fresh air. Take a walk with your pet or family every day after lunch. Call hello to your neighbors (from a safe distance) and find out how they’re doing. Stay in the sunlight for a bit and focus on taking intentional breaths—you will feel so much better!
Just because we can’t go out to dinner at our local favorites doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate meal time! Make a new dish for dinner and make your meals feel special. Dance to your favorite album, get the kids in on the process, and have a good time with it!
